For about the past year, my "Check Brake Light" has been coming on every time I turned on my car. About a month ago, my alarm started randomly going off (to the delight of my neighbors). Yesterday on my drive home, a big red "battery" indicator came on.
I immediately called a BMW repair shop Taraval. "It's probably a battery problem, or maybe your alternator" the guy on the phone said. "Turn off all electrical things (air conditioning, music, etc) and bring the car in as soon as you can."
This morning I had Alex follow me to the shop. About a mile away from the repair shop, I could feel the car engine start to sputter. I needed to keep the revs up in order for it not to die completely.
About a half mile before the shop, the car warned me that it was entering "engine failover mode." The speedometer immediately stopped responding, and all other indicator lights on the dash blinked to life.
One block away from the shop, my car completely stopped working. Luckily it was on top of a small hill, so the repair tech and I were able to roll it into their driveway, and it had just enough momentum to park it up a small ramp where they could hook it up to a trickle charger.
My car did everything it could to get itself to the garage without causing me too much trouble. What an awesome car!!!
